Mrs. Denise Martinez Ruiz, SETA Director
Before joining the Roosevelt High School community, I had the privilege of serving in various educational roles that have profoundly shaped my commitment to fostering a nurturing and dynamic learning environment. I spent 10 years as a high school science teacher, followed by 3 years as a health science teacher, and another 3 years as a middle school science teacher. These experiences allowed me to develop a deep understanding of student needs across different age groups and to integrate innovative teaching methods that engage students in hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Additionally, I spent four years as an adjunct professor at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), which allowed me to deepen my understanding of higher education and how to prepare students for academic success beyond high school.
In my subsequent roles, I served for two years as a P-TECH support teacher, focusing on pathways in technology and early college high school programs. This experience allowed me to help students bridge the gap between high school and higher education, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for future careers. Most recently, I served as an Assistant Principal and P-TECH Administrator, working closely with students, teachers, and families to support academic success and personal growth.
In addition to my school-based roles, I also work as a P-TECH and CCMR (College, Career, and Military Readiness) consultant for FourPoint Education Partners. In this capacity, I collaborate with schools and districts to develop and implement strategies for school improvement and student achievement, ensuring that students are prepared for the diverse opportunities awaiting them after graduation.
As I embark on this new chapter at Roosevelt High School, I am filled with excitement and optimism. I am eager to work alongside the dedicated staff and faculty to enhance our SETA program, ensuring that it continues to provide our students with enriching and transformative learning experiences. My goal is to create an environment where every student feels valued, empowered, and equipped to explore their interests and achieve their fullest potential.
To the parents and families, I am committed to maintaining open lines of communication and fostering a strong partnership between home and school. Your insights and support are invaluable, and I look forward to collaborating with you to create the best possible educational experience for your children. Joshua Villarreal, DATA P-TECH Director
As Director of the Design and Technology Academy (DATA), I am passionate about preparing students for success through innovation, creativity, and real-world learning experiences. My background in engineering, technology, and education has shaped my belief that students learn best when they are challenged to think critically, solve problems, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.
Before beginning my career in education, I spent ten years working in civil engineering. I later transitioned into the classroom, where I taught middle school math and science before specializing in technology education. Throughout my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to teach courses including audiovisual production, photography, graphic design, engineering, architecture, robotics, yearbook, and web design.
Since joining North East ISD, I have served as a classroom teacher and campus administrator, experiences that have strengthened my commitment to student-centered learning and instructional excellence. I also enjoy teaching film courses as an adjunct professor at Northwest Vista College, where I continue sharing my passion for media and technology with the next generation of creators.
As a proud Madison High School graduate and parent, I understand the impact that dedicated educators and strong school communities have on students' lives. I am honored to serve the DATA community and look forward to helping students explore their passions while preparing them for college, careers, and future opportunities.

I am the AP for Curriculum and Instruction. This is my 22nd year in education. I oversee the math department. I work with the instructional deans and coach on the campus master schedule. I am committed to work alongside our staff and community to build a structure of collaborative relationships in the school and community so that ALL students have a variety of opportunities to succeed.

I was born and raised in San Antonio, and a product of NEISD. I graduated from Madison High School, where my passion for education started in the Art classroom. I have both my BA in History with Social Studies Certification and MA in Education Administration from Texas A&M University San Antonio.
All of my years in education from student teaching to administration have been in the Roosevelt cluster. I learned how to be a teacher in a Social Studies classroom at Roosevelt. My first teaching job was at Ed White Middle School, teaching Texas History. Then I made my return to Roosevelt as a teacher until I became an assistant principal.
This community has my heart and I enjoy serving it every day. Rider Pride is Alive!
